A long-time artist and art teacher in Chicago, Andrene Kauffman was on the faculty of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1927 to 1967, serving as a professor of drawing and painting and chairman of the Fine Arts division. In 1967 upon her retirement, she was awarded a professorship with honors---Emeritus. She exhibited in 25 of the exhibitions of the Institute and also exhibited in New York at the Whitney Musuem, the Museum of Modern Art and Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh. Her painting, "The Stranger", is in the collection of the Art Institute.
